Kenbridge, Virginia
Charlie Washington Wilson, affectionately known as Bobby, was born on August 19, 1941, to the
late Lynn and Inell Wilson in Virginia. He departed this life on July 10, 2026, at Twin Lakes
Rehabilitation Center in South Hill, Virginia, surrounded by family.
At an early age, Bobby dedicated his life to Christ and was baptized at Flat Rock Baptist Church.
He received his education in the Lunenburg County Public School System. As he grew older, he
worked as a farmer alongside his father, Lynn, and later became a laborer at the Railway Handle
Mill. Many days, Bobby could be found walking along Routes 601 and 604, also known as Sugar
Hill Road, in the mornings or late afternoons with his bag, picking up cans along the highway.
On other days, he could be seen sitting on the front porch of his family home, waving and calling
out, “Hey dere, child,” as someone he knew drove by. He enjoyed playing Tunk on weekend
nights in the kitchen and could often be found deep in thought while teaching and playing
checkers with his nieces and nephews. If he was not there, everyone knew he could likely be
found down at the pond behind the house, fishing.
Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, Lynn and Inell Wilson; his siblings, Helen Gooden,
Anna Davis, Nellie Carter, and Rufus “Sonny” Wilson. He leaves to cherish his memory his last
brother, Franklin “Dee” Wilson (Martha) of Victoria, Virginia; 6 sisters, Gloria Wilson, Odessa
Graves, and Mary Andrews (Ellis) of Kenbridge, Virginia; his sister, Audrey Wilson of Manassas, Virginia; his sister, Joyce
Jones of Petersburg, Virginia; and his sister, Dorothea Jones of Jacksonville, North Carolina;
along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Bobby will be remembered for his gentle spirit, familiar wave, kind words, a happy go lucky
person, and the simple moments he shared with those he loved. His presence on Sugar Hill Road,
his laughter around the kitchen table, and his quiet days by the pond will remain treasured
memories in the hearts of his family and friends. Though he will be deeply missed, his life and
legacy will continue to live on through all who knew and loved him.
