Cordelia Mae Wood Hopson

Cordelia Mae Wood was born November 18, 1930, in Kenbridge, Virginia. She was raised by loving parents Mr. & Mrs. James Henry and Hattie Neal Wood. She grew up in Kenbridge and completed her education in the Lunenburg County school system in Victoria, Virginia.
On July 3rd, 1948, she was united in holy matrimony to Paige Edward Hopson of Kenbridge, Virginia. From this union, two children were born.
At an early age, she was baptized and joined St. Matthews Baptist Church in Kenbridge, Virginia where she remained an active member until death. She served faithfully as president of the Deaconess Board, member of the Missionary Circle, and, for many years, leader of the Food Service Committee. She also served in many other capacities within the church. She loved working in the church and helping others brought her much joy.
Cordelia was Past Worthy Matron of the Fraternal Order of the Eastern Stars of Virginia, Rosary Chapter 177 in Lunenburg County.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother. She lived a life dedicated to her family and devoted to servicing the Lord. We rejoice in knowing that she is now at peace in God's loving presence.
Mrs. Cordelia Mae Wood Hopson, 92, went home to our Lord and Savior on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, in Durham, North Carolina. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Paige Edward Hopson, siblings, son, Paige Henry Hopson, and granddaughter, Rhonda Hopson.
She is survived by her devoted daughter, Carolyn Leathers of Durham, NC; daughter-in-law, Fedora Hopson of Hampton, VA; loving grandchildren, Jerome Leathers (Tonya) of Durham, NC, Antonio Leathers (Vikki) of Durham, NC, Tawana Hopson-Scott (Glen) of Waco, TX, bonus granddaughter Yulanda Horton (Ricky), of Durham, NC, Joel Flippins, and Teresa Flippins, both of Hampton, VA; caring great grandchildren, Toni Williams, Bakari Smith, Mikali Smith, Bryce Leathers, Elizabeth Leathers, Ren Merchant (Angel), Briana Merchant, Amiyah Merchant, and Iyanna Merchant, along with four great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday August 2, 2023 @ 11:00 A.M.
