Lucy McKnight

Kenbridge, Virginia

Lucy Ann McKnight, affectionately known by many as “Ma”, was born on March 24, 1947 to the late Charlie Randolph “Randy” White and India Sue Johnson White. Lucy peacefully departed this life on August 7, 2026 at VCU Community Memorial Hospital in South Hill, Virginia, surrounded and supported by her loving and caring family during the final days of her life. She was a loving mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend whose life was centered around her faith, her family, and the many people she welcomed into her heart.
Ma attended Asbury School and Southside Skill Center in Crewe, VA where she studied building trades. She joined Rosebud Baptist Church at an early age.
Ma was a woman of strong faith. She loved her Bible and found comfort in God's Word, especially Psalm 23 and Psalm 91. She also treasured The Lord's Prayer, which brought her peace and strength throughout her life. Her faith was not only something she carried in her heart, but something she shared through the love and care she gave to others.
If you knew Ma, you knew she had her favorites! She loved her Pepsi, chicken, fish, apples, and red roses. The things she enjoyed may have seemed simple, but they are now precious memories that will bring smiles and remind her family of the woman she was.
Above all, Ma loved her children and grandchildren. Her heart extended beyond her immediate family, as she had a special love for the children she adopted and those she welcomed and cared for as her own. She had a way of making people feel like family, and many children were blessed to experience her love, guidance, and nurturing spirit.
Ma also thought very highly of her nephew, Jermaine “Jay” Logan, who held a special place in her heart. Her love for Jay was genuine and will remain a cherished part of the family’s memories.
Ma was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, Clifford R. McKnight, Sr; her beloved baby boy, Demond McKnight; and devoted sisters, Lillie Mae Johnson and Elizabeth “Lizzie” Cooke.
Ma spent her life building memories with the people she loved. She leaves to cherish her beautiful memories and continue her legacy of love: her six children, Brenda (Daniel) Smith, Clifford (Annette) McKnight, Jr., Nicolette McKnight, Lucy McKnight, Elroy Glasgow, Clifford “Dre” McKnight and Alice (John) Stewart; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; five sisters, Gladys Logan of Kenbridge, VA, Betty (Michael) Robinson, Shelia Cheatham, and Diane Pettus of Richmond, VA, and Joyce White-Freeman (Jucoby) of Victoria, VA; four brothers, Robert, James, and Joseph White of Richmond, VA and Willie Lawson of Blackstone, VA; two brothers-in-laws, Ollie McKnight of Richmond, VA and Percy (Vanessa) McKnight of Columbus, SC; two sisters-in-laws, Melvina McKnight of Kenbridge, VA; Jeanette Glover of Kelleen, Texas; A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, and the many children she loved and welcomed as her own.

Though Ma has made her transition from this earthly life, the love she gave will continue to live on in every life she touched. Her family will remember her faith, prayers, favorite Bible verses, love of red roses and Pepsi, her laughter and personality, and most of all, the love she had for her family.
We will miss her presence, her voice, her love, and the special way she made people feel. But we find comfort knowing that the woman who loved Psalm 23 can now rest in the presence of the Shepherd she trusted all her life.
“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.”
— Psalm 23:1
Rest peacefully, Ma.
Your earthly work is done.
Your love will live on through your family forever.
You will be deeply loved, greatly missed, and never forgotten.
