Reverend Michael Wayne Evans, Sr. Obituary (1955

Reverend Michael W. Evans, Sr. is the second son born August 26, 1955 to Paul A. Evans, Sr. and Sarah E. Callahan. A native of Annapolis, Maryland, he was educated in public schools in the states of Maryland and Virginia. He graduated with honors from Central High School in Victoria, Virginia. In August 1976, Michael answered the call to the ministry. He was licensed and ordained by First Baptist Church in Victoria, Virginia. He pastored churches in Germany from 1980 to 1982. Later, he served as Youth Minister in Savannah, Georgia until he was called to pastor Christ Memorial Baptist Church also in Savannah, Georgia. He served in the United States Army, rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant. He had the distinct honor of serving as an Airborne Ranger in both Ranger Battalions. Reverend Evans was honorably discharged from the United States Army in 1988 after fourteen years of service. He continued his education at the University of Maryland (Europe) and Liberty University School of Religion in Lynchburg, Virginia where he received Church Leadership Certificate in 1992. In 1995, Reverend Evans also obtained a Clinical Pastoral Certificate from Palmetto Health Richland in Columbia, South Carolina and in 1997 PNBC Christian Education a Pastor's Certificate. He was employed at Stivers Lincoln Mercury where he was awarded four consecutive years as salesman of the years. He was also a security officer for Allied Security. He moved back to Victoria, Virginia in 2017 and was employed as a substitute teacher for Lunenburg County School System. With over thirty-three years of Christian Ministry, Reverend Evans had dedicated himself to being a faithful, compassionate and energetic pastor. He loved to preach and teach the word of God and fellowship with the people of God. Reverend Evans loves the old hymns of praise, yet appreciated contemporary gospel music as well. One of his favorite hymns was "I Love Thy Church O God!" During his years in ministry, Reverend Michael W. Evans, Sr. licensed sixteen individuals to the gospel ministry and led numerous souls to the Lord. The last months of living he started preaching at Clay's Retirement Home in Blackstone, Virginia. Reverend Evans answered the Master's call and entered into eternal rest on Sunday, September 15, 2019 at Lynchburg General Hospital, Lynchburg, Virginia. He is preceded in death by his parents Paul A. Evans, Sr. and Sarah E. Callahan; Robert Wardell Callahan and other relatives. Reverend Evans leaves his legacy to: a special friend, Elizabeth Evans the mother of the children; two sons, Michael, Jr., Kareem; one daughter, Tiffany all of Columbia South Carolina; two brothers, Paul (Peggy) Evans, Jr. of Gardena, California, Bruce (Carrie) Evans of Stafford, Virginia; three sisters, Donna Galeas-Umana Evans of Lorton, Virginia, Denise Evans, of Washington, DC and Yvonne Fowler of Columbia, Maryland; ten grandchildren, Michael Nelson, Qwyineke Legette, Angel Evans, Christian Evans, Jaleeyah Evans, Juliet Nelson, Kareem Evans, Jr., Elizabeth Evans, Akeem Evans all of Columbia, South Carolina and Michaela Evans of Greenville, South Carolina; two great-grandchildren, Amaree Ivery of Columbia, South Carolina and Braylon Smith of Greenville, South Carolina; two uncles, Harold Little, Jr. and Thomas Little, Sr. both of Glen Burnie, Maryland; one aunt, Peggy Little of Annapolis, Maryland; other special friends Lisa Evans, Ruth Tisdale and Molly and Mason Haynesworth of Stafford, Virginia; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
