Kenbridge, Virginia
Roosevelt Capers Jr., son of the late Alice and Roosevelt Capers Sr. was born in Kenbridge Va on November 20, 1946. After a long battle with multiple illnesses, he quietly entered eternal rest at Chippenham Hospital Richmond, VA on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, with his family by his side.
As a young man Roosevelt, affectionately known as "Junie" graduated from Lunenburg County Schools and eventually was drafted into the military (ARMY) where he honorably served 2 years. He returned to Kenbridge where he met the love of his life (according to her) Joyce Turner and were married in 1972.
Roosevelt was employed by Imperial Processing which eventually was purchased by and renamed to Royal Oak Processing affectionately known as the Charcoal Plant. Roosevelt worked a myriad of job titles there where he went on to achieve the executive level of employment earning the title of Assistant Plant Manager. He worked at the plant for 30+ years and developed many long-lasting friendships. He also provided the "brutal opportunity" as his children jokingly describe it to be employed there for their summer employment. He and his wife later opened Captain's Choice Seafood of Kenbridge, VA where they served some of the most amazing food in the county.
Junie had multiple hobbies that he enjoyed. He loved fishing which is one activity many nephews, nieces, children and grandchildren will forever remember participating in with him. He was an extremely good baseball player and was well known for being a member of the Mount Zion Sharks baseball team. He later learned to play golf and later joined the Victoria Golf Club, where he was the first black member. He is most known for his great talent as a billiard player. He worked very hard to become one of the top pool players in the area. He passed that love and talent to his three sons, eventually joining them on an Amateur Pool Players Association team where they enjoyed many years of playing together.
He was a member of Pleasant Oak Baptist Church of Victoria Va, a choice "strongly encouraged" by his late mother-in-law Julia Turner, who was a long-time member of the church as well. Roosevelt served as a faithful Chairman of the Deacon board of the church building a very strong bond with the Pastor of the Church, Reverend Green.
He was preceded in death by parents Alice & Munchie Capers and brother John "Kia" Williams Capers, Beloved Sister-in Law Cozette Capers, beloved nephews Lonnie Reavis, and John "Little Junie" William Capers, Jr.
"Junnie" leaves to cherish his memories a devoted and loving wife of 52 years, Joyce E. Capers, three sons and one daughter: Tony Capers (Liz) of Richmond VA, Cedric Capers Dinwiddie VA. (Shelynda), Amory Capers Petersburg VA. and Kelly McDonald of Tampa Florida. Two brothers and one sister- Donell Capers (Penny), Leare Capers (Cozette) and Louise Reavis (Jamie).
