Synobia Jane Cradle Jackson Obituary (1942

Synobia Jane Locust Jackson, the first of eight siblings, was born July 18, 1942, to Alease Emma Locust and Macara Bell in Lunenburg County, Virginia. She received her education in the Lunenburg County Schools. Growing up on a farm had many demanding chores which included helping her Mom and Aunt Mary milk the cows before going to school among other tasks later with her siblings. At an early age she accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior, was baptized and became a member of the Bethany Baptist Church. As a youth she enjoyed attending Sunday School and sang in the Youth Choir. As an adult, she served as a member of the Ushers Ministry and proudly became a devoted president. Anxious to see what the world had to offer, at an early age she ventured out and married Chester Cradle. To this union they were blessed with one adorable son, Charles Cradle. An even greater joy came her way when he made her a grandma with his two kids, Tarnice and Travis. Baking cakes, pies and other goodies kept them nice and plump. And of course, the ice cream! All the family enjoyed her laughing, joking and playing James Brown music. Synobia was a hard worker trying to maintain the home and family. Levi's in Blackstone and Perdue in Emporia kept her rolling. Also, she enjoyed the company of her favorite work buddies and friends, Margie Fitzgerald and Alice Cradle. Later she headed out to New York where she was afforded a new companionship and traveled to see other parts of the world. After returning home, she diligently committed herself to monitoring the care of her mother. Synobia lived life to the fullest with a strong, determined nature which she instilled in her son: "stand up for what you believe in." She abided by this motto until Alzheimer stepped in and slowly changed her world. She was preceded in death by her grandparents: Janie and Clinton Locust, mother: Alease Barnes; siblings Earl Costello and Mary Alice Barnes. Leaving to cherish her memories: son, Charles Cradle (Shirley) of Manson, NC; four brothers: Daniel DeBerry of Kenbridge, John Barnes (Anne) of Washington, D.C., Charles Barnes of the home, and Roscoe Barnes of Newport News, Virginia; one sister: Dora Clark (Jerry) of Lanham, MD; two grandchildren: Tarnice Callahan and Travis Cradle (their mother, Eunice) and two greatgrands: Daymonte Felder and Iayana Felder; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
